I agree that social networking is a great tool for the clients to interact & for prosepective students to learn more about the school. I also agree that as long as agents & reps are not involved, or friending clients on Facebook or following them on Twitter, this can definitely be a positive thing.
What other form of communication does the average 18-24 year old use? Social networking has become a reliable source for businesses. Social networking will only increase as the years progress, but businesses have to be responsible for what they advertise and make sure they are getting thier idea's accross the way they want to.
This has impacted our communication level immensely, with the popularity of facebook you can reach alot of students in a short timeframe
Schools using these social networking sites are able to reach out to a larger population of students or prospective student, as people all over the world often frequent these social networks. I think that it allows more communication between the students and the representatives, however, compliance must be monitored closely. The school were I am employed does not offer facebook or twitter, but does utilize Linkedin.
As far as I'm aware my company has not branched out into social networking sites.
I think it's a very difficult road to navigate, in terms of compliance issues that may arise.
As of right now my school does not advertise on social media sites. I think it would be a great marketing tool if we did.
Social networking as opened up so many avenues to come into contact with individuals. These sites give them an opportunity to connect with schools that they may have thought were too far or not the right fit. Here they are looking at different areas of social networking to capture market share/prospective students that schools were unable to connect with.
I would also have to agree with this. Social Media is a whole new way of prospecting for students. It's prospective students at your finger tips!
My school does have a Facebook and a LinkedIn and it seems to work out really well for current students as well as prospective students. It allows them to interact with others who are interested in the same areas as they are in.
i completely agree that it is a good policy that you cant "friend" students on social networks and be on a personal level with them. There is a line that has to be walked
Social networking sites are a game changer. More and more prospective students - especially those that fall into the age range of the traditional student (18-24) - make sure to check out their prospective schools through Facebook, MySpace, and Twitter. There are also sites that allow students to rate their professors, which could be used by prospective students to get a basic feel for some of the professors at their prospective schools. What's important moving forward, as an institution of higher education, is to make sure that we have a presence on these social networking sites. This presence can be obtained by posting ads and by encouraging current employees and students to add our school to their Facebook profiles under the Employment and/or the Studied At tabs. Good things still happen by word of mouth, but it seems we're rapidly moving into word of networking.
I think Social networking is great, I think it plays a big role in Marketing. I think it is a popular aspect in our life.
I think using Social Media to gain prospective students is extremely effective. It really allows the college to communicate with students in a medium that is both convenient and that is most likely very relative to their every day life.
While i feel that social networking is being abused by those who i was normally happy to not have to listen to on a regular basis, the emergence of twitter, facebook, so forth has help our university really create a strong presence in the area. Some students tend to only hear about the meat markets, but we have made a serious dent in the dempgraphics
This was a good question, and I was shocked to find out the answer is NO!!! We do not have a facebook or twitter account for our location. (This is a cry for help!!!)
Social networking sites make it easier to get information out to students. Many students are already on social media sites so marketing there makes sense.
We post blogs and pictures and new about the college on our facebook, it is a great tool to engage with students and prospective students also. It is also a great way to show community involvement.
The popularity of social networking sites has only affected communications with prospective students in a minor way for my company. We just recently launched our social media campaign due to our strong emphasis on compliancy. We do plan on increasing our social media presence in the future though.
Yes, our school does have a marketing plan that includes the use of social networking sites. For instance, our school has a Facebook page which prospective students can "like" allowing them to stay up to date on what activities and events are currently being offered at the school.
I have read most of the comments regarding opinions on social networking. Most of the comments are very positive and the employee/rep understand the importance of not interacting socially with their students. However, I was curious if social networking has had a negative influence on schools due to a student being upset about their outcomes or not obtaining placement. How have schools effectively dealt with the negative comments on there facebook pages. I assume all schools are monitoring and proactively commenting. I'm sure this can be tricky in schools comments. However, not commenting may give the impression they are not concerned or that the student is correct.
Social Networking has come to be THE #1 way of effectively communicating with students. Most are on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. as if their life depends on it so if there is a visibility of Strayer University consistently appearing on these sites, it's helping ingrain our logo and brand subconsciously into their head. Thus making us the 1st ones they contact when they are interested in furthering their education. Strayer already has into affect different uses of marketing through social media and continuing to make our brand dominant, 120 years and counting.
