Transfering Credits

The ability to transfer credit hours to another institution depends on several factors. It is not permissible to tell a prospective student that all or some of their credits will transfer without a through examination by the Registar's office.

I do as well. It is important to not imply that other schools are likely to accept credits earned at your institution as well.

I think it is helpful to be scripted on some aspects, this is definitely one of them. I think it is necessary to know that we are saying exactly what is expected.

I agree on this. I would never tell a student their credits could transfer over unless I had valid facts, this can get you in big trouble. Best bet would direct them to the registrars office.

I make it a point to discuss our school policy regarding transfer credits and also stress that it is always at the discretion of the receiving instituion what they may or may not accept.

All I do is explain what my schools policy is and it is up to the receiving school for ours to transfer to their school.

I am a firm believer in letting the experts evaluate transfer credits (Registar). Don't talk about something you are not educated to speak about.

Somtimes prospective students don't understand the different types of accreditation and how the credits have to match. I am very adamant about being transparent about transfering of credits in and out of the school. It is critical to be open about it.

Our school also has a script to follow. I believe it helps in compliance and keeps the student better informed.

When I'm asked if our school will accept their credits from another school, I think its important to let the prospective student know, that any credits they have will have to be reviewed to see what may be accepted.

Our school has mandatory scripting while discussing the possible transfer of credits. This protects the school, as well as the agent from any false expectations.

Joe,

Yes, there is a lot of uncertainty regarding transfer of credits. Be sure to inform the prospective students that decision is always up to the receiving institution.

Transfering of credits is a topic that can come up a lot during the admissions process. It is important to let students know that there is some uncertainty with this process and not all classes may transfer.

Being up front and honest about the transferbility of credits is the best route to take.

If your open and honest upfront there is no issue, i have only lost one student because of this and i think that was a cop-out...

Honesty is definitely the best policy and as you stated there are many factors that determine what will and will not transfer. When all is said and done, it does primarily come down to the receiving institution and I encourage students to do the necessary research as it pertains to the school they plan to attend after graduating from the school they are currently seeking to enroll in.

Honesty is the best policy.Know the gpa requirements and general accrediting for the majority of your schools programs.

This is true but we must acknowledge and read to prospective students that their credits some or all may not be transferrable
