When doing a tour, I never thought to stop and talk to other staff in the area. I am planning on doing that for my next tour.

Roland, that's a great point. By switching up your route, it becomes new for you too and so the conversation can become more tailored to the student.

Change the defined route I have for touring each studio. In doing so, I might find myself giving information I have left out.

Blaire, this is great awareness and it looks like you have a plan moving forward. Keep us posted on how it turns out.

I want to get better at asking questions of the prospective student as we tour the campus. I think I tend to rely on the repport built prior to the tour and don't take advantage of the opportunity to continue to learn more about them and their drive to attend school.

Joe,
Sounds like you have some great resources to showcase your programs and school. It's nice to have options.

Some areas I would like to possable change is in my interview process, would be to have a computer slide show of the diffrent programs we offer. Showing our labs, and the students actually doing hands on in the slide show. I also currently have a couple of the instructors talk with the students to also motivate them, and also tell them a little bit about there experices in the field.

Elizabeth, good point. By showing the classes in session, the potential students can get a feel for what the classroom experience will actually be like.

Javier, that is a great point. Allowing the students to meet with the staff that they could be working with, will allow them to feel connected and start to build the relationship with those staff members.

Daniela, this is a great point. It sounds like you like to personalize the tour to benefit the students. Nice job.

Ensure that the participant meets as much as the staff as possible to feel like they are becoming a part of something.

Allow students to stay in a classroom for longer periods of time. Ask to see what is beneficial to them.

Show classes in session and ask curet students questions

Lynnette, interesting. It sounds like you would like to make your tour more hands-on. I wonder, is there something else that you could show the students to accomplish the same idea?

Dr. Jean Norris

I would like to let the student be able to see more of the hands on to let them get excited about actually working with the general public. I know that we cant let them see the massage students working on each other.

Christopher, I love this! Using the senses will certainly make it a memorable experience and also resonate with those folks that learn in those ways. Taste - I may have to keep thinking on that one. But we may get some other suggestions here too.

Dr. Jean Norris

Great job Jocelyn! It looks like you use the tour in a way to help the student find a fit with your school. You are also tailoring the experience to meet their needs which shows the student that you are listening to what they are saying.

Dr. Jean Norris

We try to involve all their senses on the tour.

Touch: to feel some of the materials/supplies that will be used
Sound: listening to a class in session
Sight: seeing the classroom and how it is set up
Smell: smell the lotions they will use
Taste: that one is a work in progress – any suggestions?

Jonathan, great awareness. It sounds like you want to use the tour as a way to tailor the experience to each student. Keep us posted on your tours moving forward.

Each room in my tour gives me an opportunity to share an attribute and a benefit. It's a way to engage the prospective student more in a relaxed way.

For instance when we are visiting the Student Resource Room/Library it's a perfect time to talk about the content of the curriculum in the Health Sciences..mention the tutors and the course manuals. Usually there are students studying in groups or perhaps a tutoring session going on.

Being more strategic and directly asking the prospective'how this (tutoring, group study, course manuals) might benefit you?' would engage them in a more 'conscious/thought provoking' way before moving to the next classroom.
