Student Access to Course Materials

STUDENTS RECEIVE THEIR TRAINING MATERIALS ON THEIR FIRST DAY.

In my organization students receive course materials prior to the start date of the course. Depending on the course, students may receive the materials 7 days prior, or no less than 3 days prior to the start date. After working at my organization for 6 years, I have not known of a situation when a student did not have access to course materials prior to the start date of the course. However, I have been informed of technical difficulties in accessing electronic materials. Technical support is available 24/7; therefore, I was able send the student to technical support to gain access. I have had to order hard copy (complimentary) books for students with computer issues, or refer students to a publisher to purchase a book for personal preference. In those situations, the materials were available to the students prior to the course start date, just not in the convenient form the student wanted.

Our school schedules students to order books at least 2 weeks ahead of classes starting and when they become available we send an email to the students with instructions on how to order them and we are also available to walk the student through the process.
I have had to walk many students with ordering books so that they have them in time for classes.

At my work place, all the classes have a module or study guide. Each student have access to that guide 48 hrs. After the enrollment. Each module contains all the materials, lectures, case studies and books required for the class. In case of improvisation, I guess the internet is the best option. It is the quickest reference source available today.

Student will received their books the first day of class. So far we haven't had to improvise.

All students that enrolled in our school programs received their books the first day of class.

The program books and materials is something that is provided once our students have been accepted into a program by their academic advisors during the interview process.

At my University, the Admissions advisor's do not really provide too much information on the Financial Aid steps, we have qualified financial aid officers that provide in detail all the financial aid information. As an Admissions Advisor, I give more the total cost per credit, and information about all our fees.

We provide the list of books and materials ahead of time so they can be prepared.

Randal,

Having the ability to have books shipped to the students home is very helpful in saving the campus additional responsibilities prior to a class start.

New students receive books, supplies and scrubs if needed the first day of class. All returning students have the books shipped to their home prior to the start day. Students must be responsible in keeping the school informed of any address change or the books will be shipped to the wrong address.

Our process works very similar. Once students are registered, they can order their books from their portal. Really makes it easy and provides stress relief for everyone. We've had a great experience with the process so far.

I have peers in other schools who still do things more manually. They check each student's financial aid eligibility and have to approve every book order.

I am grateful for our automation as I'm sure our students are too.

All students, including Pell students, receive books and materials on the first day of class. In the rare instance that the books and/or materials have not arrived by the first day, we use handouts and copies, and adjust accordingly so that the students have the information they need until the resources arrive. This makes the copier bill a little larger than normal, but well worth the comfort and confidence of our new students.

have check list to ensure that reps are doing and giving the rite info to students

The materials list is available through the student portal and online. If you do not understand the process, the student is able to come into campus and we can walk them through or help them with the order. Our campus has no physical bookstore, everything is done online or with the assistance of our Registrar.

All students material is handed out the day after Orientation to make sure that every student is prepared for class.

Dawn,

What a great idea! Offering online texts really helps to avoid confusion, complaints and compliance issues.

For our online classrooms, we offer the first few chapters of textbooks as "e-chapters," to allow plenty of time for students to receive their textbooks. We also have a wonderful team of Student Affair Specialists, who assist students in the ordering of any necessary materials for their classes. If an hiccups occur, our staff is encouraged to work with students and be flexible on due dates until they have the appropriate materials.

Robert,

Many schools insure that students are fully packaged prior to receiving materials. The goal of federal aid is to insure that all students are treated equally whether they are pell eligible or cash pay.

Cindy Bryant

All new students get books on the first day of class. As long as their funding is in place. We have had to have students pay cash for their books in the instance they did not complete their financial aid on time.
