Disabilities
As an educator, it is within my greatest believe that everyone can be taught. Although they may not learn at the same degree, they can learn. Those that have a passion to educate will be more effective at helping the individuals that have a disability.
I agree everyone can be taught, I have special needs in my family and he is one of the smartest people I know. It is good to know that 504 and ADA is in place to help him thru his journey. He will get the same access as me.
Sharon,
In their classrooms, or on their class work? Some students will have to spend more time. But remember that students with disability -- any disability -- is a capable as any other. The extra time is a function of the process the student goes through, not lack of native ability.

I agree, I've enrolled many mentally disabled students. They all have graduated and adapted their education towards a better live. Most students in the class spent 12-14 hours doing classwork. Disabled students would sometimes spend in excess of 40 hours in their class rooms.
Tameeka,
I would suggest one change in the philosophy -- instead of "they may not learn at the same degree", when you think of students with disabilities, think "they may not learn in the same way." They are capable of learning just as much, just not without changes.
