A placement department impacts enrollment , because in this economy employment and income is a primary motivator for going to school. The additional enrollment will effect the financial position of the school. The additional enrollment will also faciliate the need for more instructors at the school.
Jymy,
We totally agree. In fact we think that the Career Services staff should sit near admissions. Then they can talk to prospective students about job success and the services offered to help grads get placed. thanks, Susan
Dr. Susan Schulz
The placement Services has a lot of impact in other departments for example the admisions department, because the goal of the students is to get a good job after they have finish their program. If we maintain a good placement rate the admission department can show the assesments that we work hard to meet their goals and also the graduates students will recommend their ralatives and friends to our school as well.
Elizabeth,
We totally agree about the impact of a career services department. The same can be said of an Alumni Department. Both can result in increased enrollment, retention, graduation, new job openings, increased externship sites, student success and satisfaction, and school branding. Be sure to enroll in MaxK course on how to set up an alumni association. Thanks, Susan
Dr. Susan Schulz
I recently developed an org chart map with career services as the central department affecting:
admissions
retention
graduation
alumni relations
community/employer partnerships
Career Services clearly impacts the success of every other department in the organization and is the definitive goal of the student customer.
Nicole,
Structuring admissions and career services to work together is an ideal situation, in our opinion. They have a lot of information and ideas to share with each other. Also, prospective students want to know more about job potential than the courses they need to take. You make it easy when career services staff are so close to admissions. Every school should follow this strategy. Great. Susan
Dr. Susan Schulz
On our campus our Career Services and Admissions Coordinator share an office. We've found its helpful for perspective students to see and meet Career Services in the beginning. We start to build a rapport during those first few seconds and they are aware of the services being offered.
Glenda,
We totally agree. We think Placement should sit in with the Admissions Department. People enroll in career schools for a career. So all the placement information really gets their attention. We think prospects are more interested in stories about the job than their course work! thanks
Dr. Susan Schulz
Placement Department specifically and positively impacts every area of your school by playing a major role. For example with Admission Department, if Placement Department can generate good placement statistics this will be valuable data when Admissions Representatives interview prospective students.
Placement Services can impact enrollments by providing good services to Students, Graduates, and Alumni Speakers. They are a good source for referral enrollments.
Cheryl ,
We totally agree. This is a reason we think that Placement staff should sit near or in Admissions offices! Students enroll for jobs. Information about the job search process and where they can expect to work will definitely get a person interested in your school! Thanks, Susan
Dr. Susan Schulz
The Placement Department positively and specifically impact other departments in a school by:
1. Provides industry trends, salary and changes to faculty, administration, admissions and students.
2. Prepares students, graduates and alumni alike to broaden horizons, develop self esteem and confidence in their abilities to not only see themselves as students, but as developing their careers as professional job seekers.
3. Builds alliances with the community and employers by hosting workshops, fairs, etc...
It impact enrollments because potential enrollee of a school know they will have the guidance and assistance of individuals that are willing to assist them in locating jobs, training them to become professional minded individuals.
mary,
Very well put, Mary. There is a direct relationship between placement and admissions. It is always good to keep in mind that people seek training to get a job. That is their main focus. So involving placement as much as possible from the start is very important. Employed grads can introduce the school to their employers and to job openings as they occur. Your education department can talk with employers to be sure training programs meet workplace needs. When you think about it, everyone is a team helping the other departments reach their goals. Thanks, Susan
Dr. Susan Schulz
The Placement Department impacts the Admission Department, in that prospective students want to know about where graduates are working. If Placement has high numbers, students will see that the school has a good reputation and a placement department that works hard for their students. This also with the reputation of the school in the co9mmunity.Low placement , eventually will affect the enrollment, with fewer students enrolling.
Angela,
Placement rates are a requirement by most regulatory bodies. We believe that a school placement rate should exceed expectations. Getting a job is the reason by people enroll in career schools. Great placement rates also encourage students to enroll. Set up effectively, the placement department can keep track of all grads and their employment records. Thanks, Susan
Dr. Susan Schulz
I thing every department is very important, however job placement impact the others departments. One of the porcentage that the accrediation agencies will look very deep in your school annual report is job placement, if you have a very stroge department that will help to keep your accreditation.
Brad,
Great point. We also believe that high placement rates impact every department in the school. Certainly provides great referral options. Also high placement rates tell your employers and prospective employers that your school trains people well. When they hire a grad from your school they can be sure that person is ready to be productive on day one. Thanks, Susan
Dr. Susan Schulz
Scott,
You're right. Students enroll to get a job and when they hear about employment success directly from grads it provides a lot of credibility.Instructors and staff have a way of integrating the job search process into their classrooms so students are continually reminded how their new skills relate to the workplace. The Hall of Fame wall is great. Imagine prospective students walking through and reading all the success stories. The admissions reps won't have much to do but sign up those that qualify. We also believe that Placement and Career Services is THE most important department at a career school. Thanks, Susan
Dr. Susan Schulz
We've recently enjoyed very strong placement rates and it seems to impact all departments positively. It makes admissions job easier and motivates students and our staff alike to see our students and graduates succeeding in the workplace.
Over time, a high placement rate will definitely bolster enrollment.
I believe it has already made an impact.
It has a major impact on all Department. For Admission gives them the bragging rights to tell future graduates there is an oustanding possibility to secure employment in your field of study based on former graduates. For instuctors and staff, they will have pride and boast about thier former students getting started in there career field which in turns creates an atmospher for current to study harder and focus on the golden ring of opportunity that they themselves will have the same chance.
These are example ways Placement services can inpact enrollments. Word of mouth from grads and students. Posting placements rates. Hall of Fame Wall (pictures of Graduates and where they work). Writing sucess stories from employers and graduates. Job Fairs at the school. Get involved with the community, local Businesses, out reach programs and Chamber of commerce.
Stephanie,
Sounds like you are benefiting from all your resources including employers. We think companies that hire your grads and those who don't should be contacted on a regular basis. They have so much information if you just ask. Employers can tell you how work ready your grads are. This is a way to find out if your programs include all the knowledge and skills a grad needs to get a job and where to make changes if needed. Employers can tell you about new training that may be needed in the community. And employers can tell you about job openings before they announce it to the world. Thanks, Susan
