Job Clubs are wonderful vehicles as well! I'm glad you reminded me of those.

Jennifer,
Absolutely true that hearing from Alumna and Employers can have greater impact. Another approach which I've seen work is to start a "Job Club" where students and graduates meet to first become more informed about job skills and second, network with one another to improve their opportunities for placement.

Our students/ institution would benefit from Job Skills Olympics and more frequent Industry and Alumni speakers. The Job Skills Olympics can be fun, exciting and productive for our students. This would bring more awareness to the elements that will assist in their job search campaign. I believe that it will also "stick" because of the method of delivery. Industry and alumni speakers would be most beneficial as they would solidify and strengthen the coaching that the campus and career services department provides. Sometimes, hearing it from us is similar to hearing it from your parent. And bringing in outside influencers will only substantiate our guidance as well.
Our institution is please to count with many community organizations, alumni, and private institutions ready and willing to provide opportunity employment to our students upon graduation. We have been pursuing and maintaining those connections for years and without a doubt is a positive component in our university.
We implement all of the events mentioned above. This highly increses the graduate improvement outcome by informing them of employment possibilities, requirements, and how to improve yhjir skills in order to prepare for possible employment.
Michelle,
Brilliant! I love this idea. What will you do to promote, prepare, and "train" for the event?
