Touchpoints

Creating a lasting impression on your customers helps improve your outcome. The front door impression is always the selling point of any business

I agree with this post entirely. On term start not only is the first impression of the instructor vital, but of the lab and classroom space. The appearance of your classroom can say a lot about the style of the instructor and can affect the student's perception of the class.

I agree, the first impression at the front office is very important.

Nicole, Attitude is everything! Great job in staying positive!

Ed, It's true what they say about first impressions. What are you best practices for making a great first impression with your introduction letter?
Elizabeth Wheeler

As someone who is one of the first people our students come into contact with I take the first impression very seriously. The way you treat someone the very first time you meet them is going to be the lasting impression that you leave on them, especially in a business setting. No matter what kind of mood you are in it's always important to treat the student with respect, make sure to listen to them and their needs closely so they know you care and always have a smile. I believe that smiling is the most important thing to making a good and lasting impression. I know that sounds cheesy, but it's true! I hate walking into a new place and being greeted by someone who seems to either hate their job or be annoyed by the fact that I'm there. I don't want to give off that kind of impression to our students, so I try my best to be positive!

For me the first impression starts with the introduction letter, making sure the information is clear and understandable, the directions are accurate and all necessary materials are ordered and ready for day one. A bad first day becomes a mountain to overcome so making sure all logistics are taking care of goes a long way even before the student reaches the campus.

Myron, Making yourself available and open to helping is a great practice. Sounds like you really care about helping your students and their families!

Well, since the Campus is so large I use myself as a land mark. I describe myself, what I'm wearing, what I'm doing,(waiving a white folder) standing near the blue mailbox, all while taking to the prospective student or parent on the cell phone! This approach has worked for me for years. Talk about scoring extra points.:)

Myron, WOW! That is such a difference approach. How do your students and their families react?
Dr. Jean Norris

For me my prospective Student front door impression start when they step out of their vehicle. Because I want to set the tone for my campus tour I actually meet my students and their families in the parking lot. I introduce myself right away making them feel extremely welcome!

Efrain, Very true, thank you for sharing!
Dr. Jean Norris

First impressions are critical for business. Polite, properly mannered and groomed representatives can positively impact your success.

Paul, Another great point. First impressions are lasting, so you want to make a great first impression.
Dr. Jean Norris

The first impression means so much because people are looking at making an investment, and they need to know right away that their money will be well spent. The attitude and effort we show people from the beginning will define our customer service.

Jeff, That is a great point. Many times someone's experience has the most effect on their decision. Thank you for sharing in the forum!
Dr. Jean Norris

It may sound novel but a customer may no remember your name but they will remember how you made them feel.

SHALOMAR, Thank you for sharing your thoughts. What can you do to improve the first impression a student has?
Dr. Jean Norris

I agree that creating a lasting impression on customers! It is how you present the product in order to sell. It is also another way of gaining their trust that they will get quality products, hence quality teaching.

Helena, That's correct! How often is the student's feedback recognized?
