My institution demonstrates School commitment by ensuring students do not esceed certain time per course which encourages them to stay in class as much time as possible. Neadless to say, if they miss over 12 hours per every three week couse such will result into an automatic failure.
In addition such practice allows students to demonstrate some type of responsability for in the work force such behavior will not be tolerated. This enhances their thinking in regards to responsbility on their part as well.

In our department at school we keep tabs on attendance and try to find out the reason a student missed a day. If possible the student may be able to make up the lab and class time, if available, so that student can avoid falling behind. For students short on funds, we have a pantry they can utilize so they can have food to eat. Other departments help the students find jobs and help with financial aid issues, and also help prepare for interviews. We have had an occassional student living out of their car, and the school gave them a check that gave them the ability to find a place to live and buy some food.

Teaching for the automotive manufacture programs I have been very fortunate. I see students that are committed, dedicated, willing to work hard and have worked hard to get into this program. They have set long term goals for themselves and as a facilitator I try and help them achieving their goals.

We have graduation on our campus. The last thing the students do after they have received their diploma is walk thru an honor line of our instructors. It is shows the students that were proud of them as they go out into the real world. It's always impressed me to watch some the gruff old instructors high fiving and hugging the grads. To me that shows the depth of commitment each of these instructors has.

My institution opens up the campus of the first Saturday of each month to allow the students access to resources outside of the classroom environment in order to practice their newly learned skills. There are instructors on hand but, only to assist the students if they feel that they need our assistance.

the instructors monitor student progress through our electronic rollbook system and can use this to guide student growth. we can also check it against the students past performances in other classes to see if there is a trend in a particular students behavior so that any issues that might appear can be addressed as soon as possible. This allows the instructor to be the first line of defense in the retention department. a instructor can talk to the student about it early when it starts to show up, may also recommend a student for tutoring if needed and even alert our campuses retention team to any ongoin problems that exist

we as instructors are willing to do anything we can to make sure students get every chance to pass and retain the knowlege we give them

One practice we have is the "success Thursday". If a student hours out with a valid reason he can make up the time.

our school has a housing program,an employment progam,a student pantry,we also gather the students info and do a resume for them and keep it on file so they can up date it and get a copy of it any time befor or after they finish school.

Our student services department takes pride in our student body and goes out of thier way to ensure the success of the students. We have many programs in place to try to reduce the day to day stresses of the students. Some simple issues can become huge challenges to students, if they spend thier time worrying about these stresses, it takes away from thier education.

We are here for the students! Instruct, mentor, and be a older peir to them if needed.

Then what? What action does the instructor take with the student to help them? What does the school do? I understand that this is a good first step but what follow up is done?

All of our instructors fill out an electronically generated form the instant they see a potential problem with a student such as poor attendance or grades below average. The copy is printed, the student is advised & signs the form and the form is filed in the students personal file.

We have an appeals process for a student that has failed a course but continued to come to the class. It shows that if the student is willing to finish the course and put forth some effort, they may not have to pay for there retaking of the course.

we have several different office here that over see every aspect of the students time here the instructors are all train knowing what the student my need

Our Vocational school is committed to the students in several ways.
We have an employment department to help students find a part time job, preferably industry related, during their trainiing. we also assist in full time job placement after they graduate. This is a life long benefit.
There is an alumni association with a monitored and maintained website incorporating news and educational material, networking and job placement assistance.
Alumni are elegible for a core course retake if they need to brush up on a subject.
There is Resume writing assistance.
Grant and financial aid assistance.
ASE training materials available.
We also incorporate a large advisory committee from the industry.
On the fun side, there are student appreciation days with organized fun and games, and we organize student drag races at the local drag strip.
But wait! There's more! I'm sire I'll think of it soon too!

One practice used at UTI which demonstrates school commitment is providing signers for the hearing impaired. In addition, we provide tutors for students who need extra help. Our instructors are trained to be cognizant of students who may need a different teaching method or style to ensure their success.

our school has a student of the course. we have three week courses so at the end of every three weeks the stand out student gets an award. The problem with this is some students find this unatanable. Are there any suggestions for these students?

We meet and greet our student every day before class, after a break and after lunch. The students see that we are there, at the classroom ready to continue with the task at hand.
