We hold monthly meetings with the students from the day they start

I think we have had some great improvement in this area because we have the career services come in and address the students throughout their program. Every student has to have a resume prior to graduation and we have the community let us know about available jobs and keep us informed of student opportunities. We encourage the instructors to share job experiences and encourage the student to take a care-giving job to get in the door before they have taken the boards. Students have been impressed by the success of putting their best foot forward all the time, Employers are looking at them before they are ready to seek work. If they have made a good impression during their clinical rotation, many employers will ask them to return when they are graduating. What a motivation!

My placememnet departments tries to work with students who are graduating, but based what I learned in the course we need to get them involved sooner in the pogram.

We start the process from orientation and durig the entire time the student attends the school

We do not have a placement department since most of our students begin with a practice of their own- however, this idea is great since we could try to facilitate interaction with graduates with practices that might want new associates

The team provides webinars on career-related topics. In addition, each studnet must successfully complete a class that addresses the entire job seeking process.

I think that more opportunities to explore careers and identify transferable and specific skills needed to be successful in the chosen field could help to increase student retention.

Our Career Services Department regularly visits classrooms during specific classes to supplement the curriculum and focus on how what students are learning in classes will translate to the work force. We often invite local employers to hold on site interviews on campus.

We are planning a resume writing/interviewing seminar during this upcoming quarter to supplement what is happening in the classrooms as well.

Perfect. Suggest that you consider advising centered on career themes. Why? This helps to keep the student's vision in mind.

Our Career Service (Placement) Department now starts at the Grad Prep (new student orientation) with introductions and information as to the "game plan" for their future. They then go to the GS Prep class ( 40 hr class for all new students before their regular program) for a 1.5 hr workshop--setting up a file for each student with their picture and answering any questions they might have.

They continue to keep in touch with the students by holding daily office hours that the student can take advantage of--with their questions.

The students are scheduled into resume seminars and then externship--job training with interviews, etc. When completed with their externship they are brought back to work with the Career Services staff on the job search until they succeed.

It is an ongoing project with the rest of the staff supporting all of their efforts--it has improved our retention and placement rate. I feel we also have a happier, more satisfied student body than several years ago.

Excellent. Linking the placement department early in the educational process will help students to complete their programs. Try to introduce career services at the begining of the students program. The idea is to keep the student's vision alive.

Our placement department continuously monitors student's job status and if an improvement in their job status can be obtained, they will call for the student and counsel them on it.

Our school pulls students out of class at various points in the training to discuss job placement and possibly advanced trianing fo ran even better job after graduation. To improve , we should consider puliing students after classroom hours, so they do not miss learning the skills that will help them keep their newfound job. We have a very high placement rates but we must not forget that it is knowledge that will help them keep their jobs and move up in earning power.

We have very stringent rules amd regulations in place for the purpose of training the students to be highly professional and proficient in their chosen field. We speak to focus groups comprised of employers in the industry and form our rules based upon what they tell us they expect from their employees. If our students meet these standards, they are more likely to get hired and this makes us a hot spot for employers to come in search of new hires. This sucess helps drive enrollment and also ensures our relevance as a training destination.

Our Career Services Dept. does a good job offering assistance throughout the program. I think the student has to go to them to get much of the information. I would like to see more information displayed in student areas and have the CS staff in the classroom sooner.

Thank you for the idea. We meet and speak and tour P & B chefs through the building but have not had them actually attend a day of P & B classes to see the scope of what students learn and how beneficial they can be to an employer.

Our placement department comes to classes at strategic times to get students prepared to enter the workforce. It's more than just writing resumes and finding job offers. They help by explaining that rude, crude, or even just cool email addresses or phone answering messages that are maybe fun to some do not help you land a job.

Students need to know that schools offer more than just the subjects offered, that there should be solid guidlines for professionalism that help the student meet or exceed the industries standards.

The Career Services Department include a packet for students to complete during orientation programs to start gathering information from Day 1. This is the start of building students files and along the lines of starting a background portfolio tracking student progress throughout their program. Every new student start their quarter with a Career Development course introducing them to the world of their chosen career. Keeping communication (lines) open and on a regular basis greatly help increase retention.

we try to model a protential employee in a student manner

Excellent. This is the key... link to "the" job. And, students do need to be pointed in the direction that they need to go, early in the educational process.

I have been pro active in placemant for a long time as I have major connections with our industry. My heart is with the students as their entire world is right in front of them, they just need to be lead to the path.
