Chad, each situation will be different and rarely does one size fit all. If you are not finding success using small groups then do not use this technique. The takeaway is there is something out there that will work. You are not the first math instructor to experience students with less than desirable skills. Others have found success using a number of techniques and you will as well. Just do not give up experimenting with new techniques.
