The Self-Reflective Part of Faculty Development

Recently, one of The Lounge's bloggers, Jeremy Miller, commented on the need for teachers to reflect, and then build on their strengths while improving on weaknesses. This struck me as a major facet of ongoing faculty development and professional growth - ongoing not only through more formal studies and continuing education, but also from experience gained, as a classroom manager, instructional planner and deliverer, and subject matter practitioner.

As Jeremy stated, "We learned much in school to sharpen our skills, but we must learn outside of the classroom post-graduation.  Things we learn about ourselves may not be found in… >>>

ED 117 Teaching Gen Y

I really enjoyed this class not only personally, but also professionally. I have a very diverse group pf students in my classes and it is always a bonus to learn how to apporach the different learning styles. With the world and economy as it is today more and more people are returning to the classroom and having a knowledge of hwo to connect with each group is wonderful. I recommend this class for any and all!

EL 107 My thoughts

If online learning is going to make a real impact in your organization, you'd
better have better reasons to justify the investment than "well, everyone
else is doing it". Evaluation takes a bit of work, but then nothing was ever achieved without a little
effort. There are many good reasons for measuring the success of your online learning program. Although
there has been a strong push to get educational technology into the hands of
teachers and students, many obstacles to implementation still exist. Equipment
may not be placed in easily accessible locations. Hardware and software often
pose problems for teachers… >>>

Nurse Educator

Do you think that nurse educator must have minimal knowlege of English and be tested as an effective speaker.  My opinion is definetly yes.  Not only that, he or she must take examination of the subject they are planning to teach

Importance of the Training Courses

The CEE courses are needed by anyone who imparts knowledge, especially someone like me that has never taken any education course. Prior to taking CEE course, I understood virtually nothing about pedagogy or andragogy.  I have my background in engineering and computer science. I completed EL101 and EL108 in 2009. Needless to say that I learned a lot about teaching techniques and how to design courses in general and online courses in particular.

ED 209

Students as Customers who would have thought but i guess it is true if you think about it.  And with any business happy customers are important.  They make returning customers and great referrals.

ED 113

Adults come in all sorts of levels of learning.  We have some that are right out of high school and others that have been out of school for a while.  Some receive help from one another and can bring different learning and studying strategies to the classroom.

Course Feedback

This course was to the point and very user friendly.

Good use of time!

Great information.  Easy to navigate and simple to complete.

Completed ED 102 Online Teaching Techniques

The course offered much in-depth information  -- quite valuable if one is new to online learning / teaching.  In my case, I have been teaching online for 19 years, write several national columns on the subject, have developed online courses, and have written one book on online teaching, with another coming out next year -- and I still found the course valuable.  Why?  No matter how much experience and knowledge we own in online learning it is always refreshing to have the same info presented from a different perspective, to gain one or two new items not having previously known,>>>

EL 104

EL 104 had great tips and guidelines for online instructors. It emphasized the importance of online teachers being facilitators of the course rather than just instructors. This is a good refresher course.

Completed ED102 Online Teaching Techniques

I just completed ED102 Online Teaching Techniques.  This was a great opportunity to see what
should be done before the class starts and also what needs to be done while the
class is in progress.  It helped me
realize that I should be help minimize attrition and also help with conflicts
among the students if they arise. It also helped me to see effective ways of
projecting my presence in an e-learning environment.

Completed ED 105 Instructional Planning for Student Success

I just completed ED 105 Instructional Planning for Student Success and I think that it was a great opportunity to see the type of instructor I am and what I can also become. I truly got a good sense of the overall course here as I truly got a good sense of how to engage the student, and also remain student focused throughout the learninbg process. I feel that this ocure will be a good benchmark that I can use, in addition to what my university requires of me as a professor. some of the most intersting points was how… >>>

Completed EL 105

EL 105 was an excellent course regarding communicating with the students.  That is the key element in an online environment.  There are many communication challenges that instructors encounter.  The course assists in eliminating those challenges and creating a positive environment for the students.

I am now complete with 2 of the 3 courses we are alloted to take. :) I am pleasantly surprised to enjoy these courses so far and learning things that are real time applicable in my classroom :):)

Completed 101.

I completed the first course and found it to be useful.  Some of the material was tryly '101' material but other subjects, such as the use of multimedia in the virtual classroom made me realize that I need to add a bit more 'sizzle' to some of my courses.  i put myself in place of the students and could see that they may view the virtual classroom as lacking some stimulation (via video clips, personalized video message / lectures, etc.).

Retention is our key to success

This course taught me to think differently on how we engage students. Our work as instructors is exceptional when we apply the strategies and resources from this course

ED102

This program was very intense. I am a new instructor and had no idea that teaching went this in depth with learning what kind of students you have and how to taylor various teaching methods around the class participants. I however look forward to applying all that I have learned into my classes.

ED101

There is a big difference from being a student and a professor. While getting my Masters I always wondered how professors would come up with their lessons and assignments, now I know! I have gained a new appreciation for my professors and with this training I plan to apply the methods learned and be a great professor.
