I have been in the educational field working environment since 1984. I started in Accounting and worked my way into the last postion there I held was Junior Accountant. I received an AS/CIS back in 1989. At that time we started coming up on the computer system, one department at a time. I started writing detailed instructions of how each field and instructions for each screen for the departments of the college. It was fun to get to know a little about each department. In time I was able to assist in the different departments as we got very busy or someone was on vacation, I could sit in for them for the week.
I have worked in admissions for about 8 years now. I was kinda thrown in as the Assistant Director until one could be found. Because I worked on all the manuels and handbooks, I was able to train the admissions representaives on doing their jobs and created reports that would assist them in seeing the students they needed to contact and seeing at a glance where each student was in the enrollment process. Those reports are still in placed today with some enhancements that I have suggested.
At this time I am the Director for International and Re-Entering students. I love this position. It keeps me very focused and detailed oriented. I am the PDSO for the college and am responsible for correctly reporting movements and progress of the international students along with updating different departments what information I need to know on the international student and if he makes changes, which changes effect what I need to report. Essentially, everything. On Re-Entering students, I work within the guidelines of our catalog, CIS, ASICS, FDOE and Federal Government on the standards of progress and if they even have a chance at re-enrollment. I do not make the final decision, just review the accounts to see if application would be available to them or not.
I have gone on to complete my education with an MBA. With this degree, I have a lot more options opened to me if I ever wanted to go into another field here at the college. I am also on the Board of Directors and Members for approx six years now.
