Handling Students that Want to Meet with Financial Services before Admissions

I have had students that have requested to meet with financial services before admissions to get a price of the programs without actually going through the GEP.  Normally it's pretty easy to take control and get these students on board with our process, but sometimes the student might be extremely persistent to the point of them getting angry.  I have seen with these types of students that a wall begins to go up with them and our refusal to do it "their way" only lends to their belief that "we might have shady practices".  I will generally tell a PGE, "We have an admissions process that we must follow and that meeting with financial services is part of that process.  However, we need to go through the process in the format that the school has instructed."

I'm interested to know how some of my peers would handle this same situation...????

This is an issue that happens occasionally. When it does it occur it can be difficult. I think being open and communicating with the student as much as possible is somewhat a help.

I find that is very hard to speak with students at times before they get any finacial information.  Like yourself, I let them know that there are a line of protacall that needs to be followed and that the information that I share with them does not bind them to the intutiton.  Sometimes students get nervous untill the hear how much.
