I have found that rewards given for any, and all, extra credit goes a long way. It seems to motivate my students to excel. I will pair them up into groups and hold competitions. I find that it creates a bonding experience for the students and motivates the ones that need a little extra push. Nicol

I find that when I get a new student I go out of my way to find out something about them, likes & dislikes. I try and get to know them & when I learn their personality I help them to take their strong points and apply it to their trade. I find it helps them to build their confidence because they had it in them all along.

What I find to be very helpful(but very time consuming) is I put together a study guide based off of the test that is going to be given. I will re-word the test question, answer that is on the test will be in the question on the study guide and the question that is on the test is the answer on the study guide. I have found that it is another great tool to help the student study and to retain the information because it is presented to them in another format.

What I have found helpful is putting together study groups. We all meet once a week and I am there to oversee and answer any questions that may come up. I have found that my student's test averages have gone up and (I feel) there confidence has increased. In doing so, my student retention has gone up as well.
