Tamala, Separation of duties has always been an important part of business...however with the ENRON scandal and the onsite of Sarbanes Oxley accounting methods separating duties has gotten much more press. Due to the fact that federal funds are being disbursed the separation between enrollment and finance departments has become under even more scrutiny. Cindy Bryant
Pamela, Recently I attended a meeting that involved a great deal of information and paperwork. When the meeting concluded the presenter asked the attendees if they wanted hard copies or a flash drive. I say all of this to compliment you on your school offering flash drives as a form of documentation. Cindy Bryant

Equanda, Based on your response it seems that you went through a career services exit as opposed to a financial aid exit. Career services offers great opportunities to become better prepared for your new career just as financial aid offers information on your school loans and how to keep out of debt ad protect your credit. Rachael, Thanks for joining the forum and sharing your point of view with the group. Cindy Bryant

Cynthia, Recently EDUCAUSE published an article on mentoring. They described mentoring as a professional activity, a trusted relationship, a meaningful commitment. While the concept of student mentoring in higher education is relatively new it has been widely accepted and integrated into many campuses. It is always helpful for students to build and retain a healthy rapport with fellow students and academic staff. Cindy Bryant

Joseph, Thank you for joining in the forum. Using media for positive influences is the ideal situation. Could you share some of your ideas to increase positivism toward our sector in the press? Cindy Bryant
Sherry-Lynn, Thank you for sharing with the forum. Sometimes instructors feel that they do not share a role in compliance since many of the regulations apply to other departments. This is not the case at all, instructors spend more time with students than anyone else on campus and it is natural that students would seek advice from their instructor. Therefore being knowledgeable of the regulatory environment is very helpful. I encourage all instructors to increase their knowledge of their campus. Cindy Bryant

Brenda, Hi! you have a good point when yo mention that students are always researching and comparing topics on the internet. According to Business News Daily the average person spends 23 hours a week on the internet (various reasons) this allows time for people to be exposed and/or persuaded by the media, etc. Cindy Bryant
Elizabeth, Academic backgrounds are instrumental to the educational institution. I have never considered the possibility of instructional staff sharing their background as advertisement. Thanks for bringing this topic up. Cindy Bryant
Tamala, Agreed, referrals are easily provided when the individual has experienced excellent customer service. Cindy Bryant
