Classroom management in an e-learning environment takes on a whole new dynamic as compared to the traditional classroom environment. I think the best approach would be to have knowledge of the course management system and to be familiar with your institution's code of conduct. One way to be proactive in preventing inappropriate online behavior is to have a thorough understanding of course expectations and class rules. A student's personal biography can give clues to their learning styles. Make sure that students are aware of the classroom rules and course expectations.

I was not aware of how the concept of asynchronous discussions was so valuable to the learning process in the online classroom environment. Written communication without immediate time constraints can allow the students to put more thought into their responses to classroom assignments; therefore, enhancing students' analytical and critical thinking skills. Students can also learn from each other by reviewing each others' responses. It seems like asynchronous discussions could also encourage greater student participation.

The idea of the instructor and students posting a biography of themselves not only helps them to get to know one another, but it also helps to establish relationships based on mutual respect and honesty. These relationships allow for the students and the instructor to be more comfortable in an online learning environment. Communication is a vital component to the success of both a traditional classroom environment and an online classroom environment.

The important issues for an effective online learnign environment include effective instructor and technical support, course management structure. The course must be presented in a way that keeps students fully engaged and allows for them to be active participants in the learning process.
