i learned that it is important to maintain consistency so students can use the "cueing" to know what to expect. 

Resolving the many issues that can lead to attrition is essential.  Learning about each students communication style can help the instructor pin point potential problems right out of the gate.  Helping all students to understand the expectations and following through with maintaining those boundaries creates more space for learning.

The benefit of asynchromouse discussions is that it allows students time to compose their thoughts.  Students can go much deeper in their thinking and be much more thorough in these types of discussions. 

I will defininetly be using the idea of having students post a bio on the first day and of emailing them my bio.  I think this will help them to see what they may have in common with others as well as providing them an opporunity to be successful right out of the gate. 

Making sure I feel comfortable with the CMS will be the key to my being able to help students become confident and use it effectively.
