I beleive that tthe first step is to ask ourselfs; Are we really doing what is needed to help the students? be honest with yourself and identify where you can improve. second:Put your game plan together so that you can monitor your results.Ask your students to be honest with you and see from there prospective if you did everything you could possibly do to help them succeed and want to stay in school? Third:review your reults and once again identify where you can improve and take the neccessary steps to continue progressing.
If you are the type of instructor that sets yourself out there as someone students can approach, I beleive most of the time they will come up to you and discuss situations that may otheriwse affect there retention. Myself In the last 2 years here I have had this very scenerio quite a few times. First if we do not have the experience for which we are instructing, the students are already at a loss from the start, and we have no right instructing this material for which we lack knowledge! There simply would be no creditability, thereofr no trust can be found either. Add to this the deadly mixture of a student having issues or challenges,be it at school or away from school, they will not confide within you and you may have been the… >>>

I have found that students strive much harder at any cost to stay enrolled and acheive at a greater level when they see that you as the instructor are confident, caring (both on there education and successes); are concerned with seeing them thru difficult times,(whether it be with school or personal); and simply being a genuine instructor and person; but the most critical factor to me is that you back what you say through experience in the trade. With this they have trust within you and will confide within you for most any situation! Without trust they have nothing more… >>>
