In a meeting at our school today, I happened to glance around the room and noted a good third of the participants were busily tapping on their smartphones. I honestly believe if all of them had been confiscated that our meeting would have been much more informative and productive. Any good, common sense tips on controlling smartphone usage in business meeting-type settings?
What are everyone's thoughts on how you properly discuss your future career aspirations with your supervisor/manager? I've found more than once in past positions that although your boss will tell you that your career advancement is very important to them, it actually comes across in their non-verbal cues and reactions that they see these type discussions as examples of disloyalty or that you're basically telling them that you want to lose them as a supervisor. Any tips or suggestions that have worked for anyone?
After reading the materials here on this subject, it still seems to me that a little common sense can go a long way. For example, why would you allow someone to say, both recruit students and then have them responsible for determining whether they're admitted to the institution or not?
Anyone other than me think that any student enrolling into a college or technical school should be required to participate in some type of financial counseling? At least basic money management and/or credit management information?
As tempting as it is to use social media such as Facebook or Twitter to promote our schools, extreme caution should be used. You never know how someone else is going to receive that message you so innocently typed!

The fact that any business you've previously worked with can still call you up to 18 months after your last professional dealings with them seems a bit stacked in favor of the business to me. Many times we do business with certain parties that are "one off" type things - like getting your hot water heater repaired. Once I have that service performed that's going to be it for awhile, and it would seem to me that allowing said repairer 18 months worth of calls to solicit me for yet more business is a bit onerous.
