As a librarian, I don't have my own class so I'm often in the role of the guest speaker. I try to build rapport by: * saying hello to students as the enter the classroom (or virtual classroom, in my case) * taking time to introduce myself and tell students how and why to contact me with questions * ending my visit by thanking the students for their time and reminding them who I am and how they can contact me. As a librarian, I find that age is a factor for students who are doing library research. I'll have to generalize. This isn't the case for all students. I find that older students are usually more interested in using the library and the online library tools. Younger students are much more likely to go straight to Google and are not interested in the tools that the library has to offer.
How have you found the library useful in developing technical, professional, or personal skills? Has there been a particular book or article that you've found useful?
