From this topic I have learned the importance of being consisitent with course module creation so that the students are not 'stressed' when they come across a different format. Even in a traditional brick and mortar environment, students tend to not appreciate when differences occur in their learning enviornment. 

 

I have learned the difference between asynchronous and synchronous discussions. I have learned that synchronous discussions should be limited to one on one assistance or small groups of no more that 6 to address specific issues. Asynchronous discussions can be valuable in that they tend to allow learners more think time and the opportunity to considor what they post be fore posting it. 

 

I learned the importance of posting a biography of myself, sending a welcome letter by the end of day one, and sending a personal message to each student by the end of the first week.

 

The most important thing that I have learned about this topic is the importance of the instructor being functionally efficient with the chosen CMS. This reading, thus far, has reminded me of the fact that the beginning of an online course can start out slowly. Why? The students may be at different levels of comfort and competency with technology. As a result, it is vitally important to take the time eductae all participants in the beginning to ensure success over the course of the clas.
