About me

Good Day,

I am Francis Kisner.  My life has included earning a BS in Mathematics from Drexel University, spending 30+ years running a family business, going into substitute teaching and completing a Masters in Education at Mansfield University (Pennsylvania).  Since completing my certification to teach secondary math and physics in Pennsylvania, I have been substituting in several high schools and the local vo-tech.  In the summer of 2013, I started teaching in a career school as well.

Interests

mathematics, physics, photography, hiking, canoeing, religion, music

Activity

I finished the slides of lesson 15 and found a link to download the appendix that was mentioned.  The file downloads with the title "Lesson".  When I attempt to open it, I get a box asking what program I want to use.  I have tried, Word, Word Pad, NotePad, Explorer, and Adobe Reader.  The higher level programs will not open it and the lower level ones show unreadable lines of coding.

Can anyone suggest a program that will open the file.

Thanks.

Francis

Here we reach the crux of the issue: Acting in an ethical manner toward all people. It is not possible to write regulations so exactly that all circumstances are covered. Expressing ethical requirements in vague terms encourages us to apply honesty more broadly.

I sometimes wonder about student expectations and the admission process. Some of my students are very deficient in basic math skills. Should there have been a screening process as part of their application to the school which would have pointed them to remedial class work? That would certainly have changed their schedules and time requirements. It is important that the student expectations are in line with the school expectations.

So far, the material in this course comes down to a few concepts: Be honest in all statements to everyone. Don't make statements that can not be backed up. All the rest is detail or attempts to define honesty. As I read somewhere: Let you "yes" mean yes and your "no" mean no.
