About me

Hi, My name is Florita Robinson. I am currently a dental assistant instructor at Concorde Career Colleges Olrando, FL.  This is my 5th year as a dental assistant instructor; I spend 3 years teaching at a previous Career Institute. I enjoy teaching students, specifically the wide variety of ages I come across students ranging from 18 years to 45 years and up.

The maxknowledge courses are a great tool to help instructors better their teaching skills, giving them an understanding of the different learning styles of students, and how to best reach or approach them. Also, giving the intructor the opportunity to renew or add new goals and objectives to their yearly teaching plans, helps to keep them grounded or focused to do a good job teaching and guiding the students through their programs.

A very good topic to talk about, and which is necessary to address in schools.  The speaker has hit the points I come across with students,  He also mentioned fear, which I greatly contribute to procrastination with students.  If a student takes a bit longer to grasp a subject compared to another, then as an instructor, you will notice this, and help the student in any way you can to do well.  An instructor can know or see the student can do well or better, but for reasons procrastinate.  I have experienced that in some ways, the student wants to… >>>

With regard to opening up the classroom to students' use of cellphones to look up discussions to talk about them in small groups.  It's another way of creativity introduced to students' studying and learning, but the problem is they now want to use their cellphones for every period involved.

In most classroom and workplaces, cellphones are to be silenced.  So having the opportunity to be allowed to use those in class I think is very welcoming to students.  The problem I think is, that it is hard to monitor if students really keep with the subject introduced by the instructor,… >>>

I don't think that the professional development course incorporated in a student's course of study is time consuming or that it is not of help to the student.  Professional development focuses on the soft skills every student/ employee/ person is to possess to be able to succeed in their work environment.  Some students need to hear and be taught about acceptable behaviors and attitudes, morality, and the characteristics valued and rewarded on the job.  Work is important but students/ prospective employees need to know how to communicate and be around customers, clients, patients, or their colleages.

I agree.  Reflectiion on any experience and improving once weakness while building on strenghts is part of the learning process.  F Robinson.

To think of each student individually when teaching, and reaching them through their different learning styles, will motivate them to work harder and succeed with their courses, as they know the instructor is there for them.

I agree Abdul that the instructor s to find different methods to motivate a student.

I agree that as instructors we are to keep the lessons exited to the students, and change the ways we teach to reach all students with different learning styles.

I have enjoyed the course too.  These are great methods to guide us in the dealings with students.

The subject of the three filters - deletion, distortion, generalization - determining what is of value to the learner I find to be interesting. With regard to distortion, I have come across this with some students. It seemed they focused on the logistical things like "We were told we are to receive notebooks, pencils." And during the courswe of their studies, the focus became something like "Why do we have to learn about a certain step in a procedure when it is not mentoned in the chapter we are studying but in the next?" This even when I mentioned it weas… >>>
