About me

Hi, My name is Florita Robinson. I am currently a dental assistant instructor at Concorde Career Colleges Olrando, FL.  This is my 5th year as a dental assistant instructor; I spend 3 years teaching at a previous Career Institute. I enjoy teaching students, specifically the wide variety of ages I come across students ranging from 18 years to 45 years and up.

The maxknowledge courses are a great tool to help instructors better their teaching skills, giving them an understanding of the different learning styles of students, and how to best reach or approach them. Also, giving the intructor the opportunity to renew or add new goals and objectives to their yearly teaching plans, helps to keep them grounded or focused to do a good job teaching and guiding the students through their programs.

When a student has a behavioral disorder, then an instructor sensitive to the student's situation might bring out great rewards in the learning process for the student. One example might be anxiety before and during exams.  The instructor might tutor the student separately, teaching them ways how to study and teaching them to be relaxed during the exam. Being prepared way before the test start, doing breathing techniques, or asking others at home to review the exam with them, might also be very helpful.  Also thoughts of clouding one's minds with negativity of not being able to succeed on the… >>>

If necessary, I integrate the internet in the classroom. One particular subject in the dental class involved "Effective Telephone technique training" learning how to answer the phone the proper way" by Paul Ganjian.  Very helpful to students.

Valuable information regarding student retention, and which faculty and staff come across.

Depending on how you want to guide the group discussion, I think its OK to wait till everyone is done to then interact with the class.  It might be that while you move yourself among the groups and listen you might make a comment here and there, direct, or give examples you have encountered on the particular subject.  I'd say, make your self to be part of the discussion if necessary.

101 is a refreshing course for new instructors.

It is always encouraging and helpful to have many ideas availble to cater to the so much learning-diverse culture of students in the class room, specifically those with the attitude they paid, so they have the entitlement of receiving a good grade.  One of my ideas is to give weekly home quizzes.  This shows me the student's interest in the subject as well as effort to succeeding in class.

I kind of smile when I read this.  It is like one often says "one is never too old or too wise to learn something."  Even if one is knowledgeable about a subject or anything else, I think it never hurts to hear about new ideas, thoughts, or ways.  Many thoughts or ideas together can contribute to better ways of learning, teaching, or doing something, and in the long run the good of the whole.

I agree, 101 is very beneficial.

To be aware of the best study methods or study techniques for students is good information for instructors to know, because in a way it would make things easier for them (instructors), how to teach the subjects.  I am surprised that for students, highlighting and underlining were found to be one of the worst study techniques.  But then it may be a student's preference not to mark or write in their books when they study. Students often ask what they need to know for a test, and highlighting or underlining the sentence in the book would emphasize that for them,… >>>

I also have to say though that I give the student time to come to terms with themselves to do their assignment and increase their time to finish the subject on time.  So if it takes them an hour to finish something that can be done in 5 to 20 minutes, I give them the space to do so.  the other students who finish their projects o time, I have to cater too as well.  I do not want them to get behind because of another student. So I cater do both sets of students at the same time, of… >>>
