About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Russell, Well said in terms of making your content relevant to your students. They need to see the connection between course content and career growth. Once they do their motivation levels increase as well as their ability to make application of the material. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Judy, I use pretesting as well because I like getting a baseline on my students so I can then customize my instruction to better meet their learning needs. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Russell, This is going to yield great rewards with your instructional efforts. By being able to engage all of the learning preferences of your students in the learning process you are going to have satisfied students that will increase their knowledge and skills in a way that will yield rewards for them as they move closer to their career goals. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Nichole, Four great items that all teachers should use with their students. Thanks for sharing this list with us. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Brittany, You make a good point about the stickers. I have a saying "adults are just taller children". By this I mean that we can use many of the same methods of reinforcement that teachers of children use because we are all human. My adult students like snacks, stickers, pizza after they have done a good job with a project or quiz. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Brittany, Good reminder and well said. This is what keeps them coming to class and seeing the ROI of the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
JAMES, The more examples the better. As you have noticed I am sure your students really perk up when they have real life experiences related to them because they help make the content have value to them. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Sherral, This is a great plan for students to follow. This way they know they have made meaningful realistic and informed career choices as it relates to where they are now in their studies. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Terri, This is such a great service you are providing your students. This will keep then informed and knowledgeable about the progress they are making and how they can achieve success in the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
