About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Michael, Good plan because then the students have a visual reference point as to what is going to be covered that day. They then can align their thinking to the listed goals and objectives increase their focus on success that day. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Kathleen, Good strategy to follow with your students. This way they know your are going to be consistent with your expectations and they can plan their effort to give them course success. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Reynaldo, You are right about the phones being used like clickers. There are several apps that can be integrated into a school's system so they will function as clickers. This will expand even further the use of phones as well as other forms of technology. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
JAMES, Can you expand on this by sharing some strategies that you use with your students? Thanks for your input on this. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Indira, Right you are and this is why it needs to be planned well so the students will see that they are going to have a good experience with their instructor. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Mark, Thank you for sharing this example. Great way to illustrate your point about how individuals can work through critical thinking to come up with solutions. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Sarah, Thank you for sharing your experience with us. This is a good lesson for us all to learn. Instructors should never approach the classroom unprepared. We know this but still it happens all the time. It is not professional nor beneficial to students if we just show up and try to bluff our way through a class. They paid for a professional experience and learning leader and we need to provide such to them. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Teresa, Thank you for sharing this process with us. It is a great sequence that gives students a formula that they can work through to learn how to be problem solvers. Through practice and self discipline they will learn how much effort needs to go into critical thinking and problem solving as well as the rewards that go with being successful. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Mark, Good strategy. Instructional in this format is much like climbing a ladder. You move up a rung, then another and another. While moving up praise is given and reinforcement occurs. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.

Ellen, You are doing a good job with the variety of instructional delivery you are offering. I believe that individuals need to learn how to take in information through other venues than just their one learning preference. The reason is that we all know that once in the workplace it is their job to receive the information and do something with it. Often it will not be in their learner preference but in the most convenient way so they need to be able to take in information in a multiple of ways even it if is not in their preference… >>>
