About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Denise, Glad the example worked for you and given the extremely cold weather we have been having throughout the United States I am sure this example has been used over and over due to dead batteries. As for the problem solving steps you are letting the students develop critical thinking processes that enable them to become problem solvers. Keep up the good work. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Bonnie, For me student rapport is the pay off as an educator. By earning their respect and then developing rapport with students I can see their engagement grow and their professional development expand on a regular basis. This is exciting because when it start to happen you know that you are impacting your field by preparing the next generation of individuals to enter your field. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Amy, Good strategy to follow. Your dedication to your students shows through your efforts to adapt as needed to meet the learning of your students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Bonnie, Great advice for instructors to remember as they prepare to start a new class. They need to project the human factor of caring so students will see they do in fact care and this sets the stage for a successful class to come. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Travis, Well said and a key point to remember when preparing for that first class meeting. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Denise, I agree it is a win-win situation because of the reasons you list in your comments. Great strategy to follow, thanks for sharing it with us. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jeff, Tie such memory work to your field and you have a winner. I do this with my students and we have short reviews over the memorized material in game form and the students really get involved when we play these games. I think you will like the results you get from this activity. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Hugh, This is a great way to use the assessment as a learning tool beyond just quizzing them through the answers they give. They get to talk about the assessment and discuss what the answers are and why they are the correct answers. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Kristin, They are what makes the classes fun because they engage the students in many different ways as they use the content that has been shared with them. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Hugh, Immediate use of newly acquired knowledge is a great instructional strategy and you are using it well with your students. They learn it and then apply it. As a result their working memory bank is where this information and the skills get stored for use when they need it once they are in the field. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
