About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Kyle, This is one of the reasons I am a teacher. I really enjoy the human factor, which involves exchanges with students, supporting their learning efforts and seeing them be successful upon graduation. This is what our job is all about. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Kyle, Your effort to customize your instruction to your current students is reflective of a invested instructor and I commend you for that. The more you know about your students the more accurately you can provide instruction and support. Thank you for making this point so all of us instructors will make sure to secure all the information we can about our students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Summer, It is good for instructors to check for understanding frequently as you move through the course. This way their feedback can help you to revisit areas that need further explanation or illustration. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Summer, I teach from 4 until 10 pm so I can appreciate your comments about keeping students engaged. You are using a variety of delivery formats as well as breaking up the sessions so the students can reset their brains and retain their focus. I commend you for these efforts as you strive to move students through a long session class. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Kyle, Spoken like the role model that you are. You are helping your students to see what a professional in their field is like through your language, dress and conduct. By having a well prepared syllabus you are outlining what your expectations are and how the students can meet them. This reduces their questions and anxieties about the course and enables them to focus on planning how to meet the course requirements. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Summer, This is so important. So many of our students coming into classes do not have a clear idea as to how to function as members of their career area. They need to see that appropriate dress, language and conduct is essential to career growth and success. You are their role model as they develop their soft skills and get ready to step into the real world and hopefully be successful. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Summer, Well said about the first impression that a student gets when coming into a new course. It is important for instructors to set the stage for success and a positive first impression gets that effort underway. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Summer, I think this is a good way to offer instruction to students. By keeping them in the "OR" mode they will see the value of the content being offered and the skills being developed. Also, their transition to the real OR setting will be easier since they have been in the simulated one for the duration of their schooling. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Kyle, Good plan that will result in more effective instruction and improvement for you. Also, your satisfaction will rise because you are going to be able to see the results you get with your instructional efforts. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Summer, Keep up this effort and your skill in this area will grow. A plan for you could be to take one area of your lecture and work on developing activities and strategies to make it a "wow" session. Once you are satisfied with that area then you can focus on another one and so forth. Before long you will have gone through your entire lecture series and will have increased the appeal and strength of each section and the course as a whole, while enjoying your time in the lab with your students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
