About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Summer, Observing other instructors is a great way to expand your knowledge of instructional delivery. I still sit in on other instructors classes even after teaching for many years. As educators we need to be life long learners, not just in our field but also in our teaching. This way we can continually incorporate new strategies and activities that will make our instruction more effective and efficient to our students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Meg, The more this can done the better. These examples and connections increase the value of the course content and help students see why they are in the program they are and that they are moving closer to their career as a result of what they are learning. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Miriam, This is very important for many of the students I work with as they have had life situations that have put them in a place where they are trying to prove themselves and make a positive second impression. As the instructor by making a positive first impression you are providing them a role model that they can use to shape their own future in relation career success. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Meg, It is the road map that the students will follow in order to enjoy learning success. You are right that it must be clear and informative if it is to serve its' purpose. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Mark, Being positive and sharing your enthusiasm for what you are teaching goes a long way in "selling" your course students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Robert, Like your last sentence because it is critical to the learning process. Once the students see how these dots connect they realize that they are being helped to move closer to their career goals and are creating a future for themselves. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Robert, This is a very good point to impress on instructors. Respect needs to start from the beginning and this will lead to the development of rapport and student engagement. When all of this comes together then it is a pleasure be a teacher and help students to move closer to their career goals. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Diane, So true. Students need to feel a part of the learning community and when they do they will thrive and feel comfortable in making contributions to the class. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Allyson, This is a good way support your students because by sharing examples of assignments you reduce their fear that they aren't clear as to what you want from them. This way they can jump right in and start to work on their projects. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jonathan, All of these methods are good ways to expand your knowledge about how to present instruction and engage students in the learning process. The more exposure the more information you will acquire to help you be more effective and efficient and an instructor. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
