I have a very hands on program that I teach in, so I find it a little challenging to apply information to my learning styles that prefer it auditory vs. hands-on. I tend to structore my classes in a very lecture and lab orientation to accustom to both learning styles. For different learning styles in the classroom, I have also found it valuable to have the diffences in the learning styles because it gives students a different perspective on things. What is an example how you incorporate auditory vs. hands-on learning into your classrooms?

I think as a great teaching tool using visuals, for the visual learners, but also having hands-on activities so they can learn how to apply the material they learned. I also find emphasis applying it in different ways whether it be an on-line assignment, simple review questions, a hands-on group project, or even a crossword puzzle. Trying to connect to different students and learning styles is what makes a successful student.

I will prioritize what are my main important topics that I want to discuss in the class room. When I have my topics, I organize a complex outline that will help me to get the class situation and prepped out. The better organization I have, the more comfortable I am with the material at hand.

I am a program chair here on our campus, and have the challenge of finding each particular student not only for their training requirements, but what externship sites will be the right "fit". I consider their technical skills, people skills, and do they have specific hours they can work their externship hours. It is easier to place the younger generation because of the flexibity of their scheudles, but I do have to deal more with "soft skills" being an issue. The attitude and eagerness to learn is better in my middle-aged students. They really "want" to be there learning and… >>>

I tend to do lectures visually, but also give them a hand out with some of the lecture information on it. The lecture info that is not on it they have to fill in through the lecture. They tend to follow more thoroughly, not too much writing where they cannot learn while they write, and also they are doing somehting so no sleepiness.

y first impression that I really strive for day 1 is being early and greeting the students as they approach my classroom. I also try really hard to leanr their names by week 2 because helps them feel more comfotabe being a new instructor for them. I also always acknowledge my students in the hallway by saying hello once I know their names.

In my profession students have to have knowledge on the subject on hand, but also be able to apply it to a hands on setting. It helps them learn how to utilize the content when they use it in a lab setting. This helps with the visual learners, but also my textbooks learners. Both learning groups are covered.
