Greetings Shanon and Sadie! Thanks so much for the posts about maintaining eye contact. And - one other thing that I found is that it builds students' self esteem. Those students who otherwise have not been interactive, now have the confidence to really be part of the learning environment. But what you didn't say is how does it make you an an instructor feel? Keep up the good work! Jane Davis ED106 Facilitator
Hi Tim and to other participant posts! Some many of you suggested that we must first know the disability and Tim has suggested a good approach. It doesn't put anyone on the spot because it is very generic. Then I think the next step is letting "all" students know that you are available and willing to help where possible. What do you think? Thanks and great work! Jane Davis ED106 Facilitator
Good morning! There are many comments on using life experiences in the classroom. From these posts there appears to be a common theme - how important it is to validating students and their experiences. That is so important! Thanks to all of you who shared your personal experiences with us. Keep up the good work! Jane Davis ED106 Facilitator

Greetings! There are so many post about working with groups, I thought that we should go back for a moment and give it some more thought. In my earlier post, I suggest that students understand the reasons behind group work and how important it is in the work environmnet. But this doesn't really settle the continuing challenges in the classroom. So I thought that I would like to hear more from you. You have giving the problem, but I would like for each of you who posted on this topic to suggest one solution. You know that this is a… >>>

Good morning! As I was reviewing your post this morning, I saw that several of you had made comments about improving your communication skills. WOW - what a task! I can number how many times that I've thought "now that wasn't what I really meant to say" or "boy, I really said to much - it's all about me". And it is a difficult balance in life and in the classroom. But I ask - why is it so important for us to become better communicators, in this case in the classroom? What do we hope to role-model to students?… >>>

Greetings to each of you who made post about maintaining eye contact. You all gave very good comments about eye contact. One of the examples about being a child not wanting to be called on, then as an adult who lacked confidence made a perfect point about how that eye contact can help students build self esteem. How facilitators/instructors impact the future of students is an awesome responsibility. Another comment made about the instructor who never looked students in the eye and how unapproachable she was. This just indicated to me that she was comfortable in her own skin and… >>>

Greetings! I noticed that several of you have made post about groups. Having student group is an area where so many of us struggle to achieve a balance and I don't think there is a perfect way. A couple of strategies that I have used: 1) Assign 2 or 3 students in a group on the first night of class and they work together the entire length of the course. So when it comes time to do the "big project", they have built a relationship of trust and are ready to work as a team. OR 2) I change group… >>>

Greetings Tim & Bradley! I noticed that you both made excellent comments about using memorable experiences in the classrooom. Great idea! Using the memorable moments in learning sends students out into the work world with tools that assist them in getting the job done. In my opinion, it is an excellent strategy to use in class since all of our experiences are different. Keep up the good work! Jane DAvis ED106 Facilitator
Hi Shari! It reduces boredom for students as well as for the instructor creating a more interactive classroom. Keep up the good work! Jane Davis ED106 facilitator
Hi Joseph! You are absolutely correct! It about staying in touch with students and helping them feel like they are the most important student in the class. They then know that you are genuinely interested in their learning outcomes. Keep up the good work! Jane Davis ED106 Facilitator
