About me

Hello, I have been a nuclear professional for over thirty years.  I have worked on submarines, commercial reactors, and DOE National labs.  I enjoy treaching as much as I have enjoyed working in the nuclear field.  Every day is a new adventure.

Activity

I appreciated the use of video learning as I have seen the struggles of those who would otherwise fall off the mark, remain engaged and active in the process until they had actually had a substantial feeling of accomplishment.  This type of positive learning environment bolsters energy towards a strong neurologic trend in learning.

I learned valuable lessons in thought progression and action added learning.  I also learned that communication based learning and round table discussions are productive in driving out the best outcome.

Changing the concept of ask and answer in the classroom to any of several differing types of information exchange can enhance the collaborative experience and promote real learnming.

I experienced the relevance of the value of enhanced discussion and the power of thinking about thinking to evoke powerful and meaningful learning.

This section has actually energizde me to try a completely diiferent approach to one of my subjects.  I am getting very excited about the ideas that are running through my head right now.  I can't wait to try them.

Create the environment that you need to have exist in the class.  That environment should ecourage ease of conversation, trust in the system for building a learning setting, a comfort between students as well as between student and teacher.

As well as knowing the material, it is important to be a real person that shows empathy, excitement and engagement.  Remove the fear.  Foster the environment for learning.

Clear goals, find your style, be honest and humble, and continually strive to be the best you can be.

I have learned key ways of vigilance in the classroom and on campus for the student who may be in distress.  I plan on making an active practice to heighten my awareness levels at all times.

Objectively seeking positive/neutral terms for use in discussions never occured to me.  It seemed like spinning a concept of encouragement at first.  I then realized that it is more a way to destigmatize the conversation and make it an issue that is supposed to be talked about.  I will work to change my attitude regarding language and to keep the conversation alive.
