Activity

Thank you for sharing this Katie. It sounds like you are using a version of the "feel, felt, found" technique which can be an effective way to connect with others. I like that you allow the student to talk with others regarding their concern. This will help them build a relationship with other staff members too. Great job. Dr. Jean Norris
Mike, thanks for sharing this. Yes, students today have a lot more choices and a lot more ways to research or shop before making the decision. What we can do is partner with them throughout the process to help them make the best decision for them. Great work. Dr. Jean Norris
Cameron, that's a great point. It sounds like you like to start off a conversation by building rapport and getting to know a student first. Then, you can get into the details about the school and the program. I'm curious, where do you see attitude fitting in? Dr. Jean Norris
Michael, interesting. This type of communication can help you connect with other generations. Great job. Dr. Jean Norris
Michael, thanks for sharing this. I'm curious, what about your environment helped shape this style? Dr. Jean Norris

I presented on a webinar yesterday comprised of 100's of those responsible for student retention.  When asked what role admissions played in retention, over 50% said that admissions should play a major role.  Nearly 60% of the same group believed admissions didn't have the actual training to do this in a meaningful way though. So it's tough to hold admissions accountable unless they are trained and have the proper resources.  What do you believe admission professionals need in order to truly impact student retention?

Mike, great point that product knowledge is important. I agree. I'm curious, could you tell me your thoughts on product knowledge being a part of sales skills? Dr. Jean Norris

Jessica, sure. Being proactive and reaching out to the students helps build rapport and it shows that when you say that you will call them, that you really mean it. Great job. Dr. Jean Norris
Great idea Jessica. I would love to hear how your next tour goes with the staff introductions. Dr. Jean Norris
Jessica, I love the way you re-framed this to a softer question. Let us know how this work for you. Dr. Jean Norris
