In my first class I always give a brief background on myself, both personal and professional. I want student to know that I am an expert at what I do and that they are in good hands and I also want them to know I am a person with outside interests. I go over the course expectations, I try to joke a little and get them to relax. I always let them know they do not have to call me professor or Mr. Melle that will do just fine. I find this gives them my expectations but also relaxes them… >>>

I have specific course expectations for each course and at the beginning of a course I advise all students to read these expectations. While I know some students do not read them, when emailing me or asking me questions that I have already outlined in the expectatiions, I refer them there, it saves me a lot of time having to answer the same questions over and over and it gives them the answers they need.

Over the past two and a half years I have taught several business courses both pre and post graduate. I have a lot of experience in business and marketing and I have used this experience in the classes that I teach. I advise students that I do not teach out of the book. I teach each session based on an upcoming assignment and I use real life experience as examples rather than text book or hypothetical examples.
