I learned how I would like to craft a presentation together for our students. I would like to be able to ask students questions afterwards about what they learned from this information and when I get an answer, I am going to reward that student with a quick remeinder card they can take on interviews with them. Ultimately I will give everyone in the class a card.

I learned good general questions to ask at the end of the interview. The only other thing I always tell students to do is when they get the job, immediately update your resume.… >>>

Some of this section doesn't pertain to us because we are in the skilled trades. We tell our students to dress business casual such as a polo with khaki's (even our young women), but they should also bring work clothes,  a helmet and their tool bag. Believe it or not, unless they are specifically told by the employer to bring these items, they sometimes forget.

How are future career and educations fairs going to change in the future? Does anyone know who are the lead military folks we need to be in contact with?

Sometimes it's hard enough to get students to call you back and now we have to pay for someone else to come in and do the same thing we are already doing? One other barrier to employment that wasn't mentioned in this first topic is drugs. The government doesn't require a student to be drug free when they apply for FAFSA but we are required to assist them in finding work even when we know they aren't drug free. I don't think someone… >>>

Sometimes I want to listen but I have time constraints that keep me from fully listening. The students I am referring to are the ones that just want to come in and unload about their day. My office is inside the job center where closing the door does not always deter a student even if they can see you are busy. I don't want them to feel I don't care because that's not true. What do you do?
