About me

I am brand new to the world of classroom teaching haaving just completed by MSN less than a year ago.  I am currently teaching Pharmacology 1 and will begin teaching Med Surg 1 next term as well.  I am really excited and want to do everytring in my power to make the world of learning a fun and exciting environment for my studets.

I have used video, PowerPoint, skills lab with hands on training, group discussions and board work in my class. I am looking for additional innovative teaching strategies that can be used to keep my students engaged. Any suggestions?
My approach thus far in teaching is to email my PowerPoint to my students a few days before lecture, preparing the classroom, slide show, notes, and any other housekeeping issues well before students arrive in the classroom. I start class promptly at the designated time and take hourly breaks to give students the option of movement. That being said, I have at least three students that constantly sleep during class regardless of what is happening in the classroom. Any suggestions on how to curb this type of behavior in the classroom?

Last week I taught my very first ever class. I have a pretty large class 31 students and my original plan was to go over course documents with a Q & A period and then move right into course content. This plan was a little side tracked by missing textbooks for the entire class and I lost nearly an hour of lecture time. I tried to remain positive and let my students know that by being flexible and creative we can as a collective group still get everything accomplished.
