When I teach residentially, I try to call on at least 5 students during each class to help me remember names. I let my students know that I'm not the best at remembering names as I'm learning new ones, but ask that they please be patient and help me. Online, I try to begin each comment or reply with using a student's name.

Teaching to Learning Styles

When I first began teaching as a teaching assistant in graduate school, learning to teach to different learning styles was the most valuable thing I learned and I use it for teaching, when I lead meetings, even when I pitch ideas in my other job. I have found that appealing to each learning style helps all students learn better.
