What are their options? The students want to be apart of their own society, but it's their society that is bringing them down. They need someone else to help them make sense of the observations they them selves make. Their thinking is not properly formed yet. Part of my role as an Instructor is to help them see through the lies of their society and get a grip on the truth of the that is in front of them. Understanding- what they see is not what you see

Working at a vocational institute offers me a chance to see things through anothers eyes. I've had the privilege to teach the deaf, the illerate,and disabled. What I've found is one truth. That this place is better with each student that tries to achieve his dreams especially the ones that start with a handicap or a learning disability. I see things differently that with the loss of any student the world is diminished just a little.

Group Management

We have to put 4 people to a group. This is the only way our labs will work. This usually will allow people in the less motivated catagory to try to slack off. I find that if I spend a little extra time with the leader he will assist me in the direction of the other less motivated students.

Establishing a balanced class

In every class I find that I have the makings of a great class. Most are eager to learn, however some are more motivated than others. The key is to reach the ones that are less motivated. If I can reach them I can get them to engage the ones that are motivated. The usual solution is artist vs. practically. This usually balances the class so the artists see the advantge of being practicle and the average student sees the edge of being a artist. This way they feed on each other.

It takes all types

I've been reading these forums and have come to the conclusion that we as a body of peers are trying to do something that we shouldn't do. We are trying to take away their right to fail. This in my opinion is also taking away their right to succeed.When dealing with what I call the hard headed students, set them up with a problem they can't resolve with out your help. The hard headed ones will not want to admit defeat,they get frusterated and finally ask, "Can you show me". This is the pinnacle that I have been waiting for,… >>>
