we are all adults here, and we all have cell phones, my policy is that as long as they are not a distraction i dont particularly care. at the same time theres a big difference between checking/silencing a call or text and browsing/wasting time. prolonged cell phone use must be taken out of the classroom
SETTING CLEAR DEADLINES AND REMINDERS WHEN THINGS ARE DUE IN TRIPLICATE CAN BE VERY HELPFUL
learned about the usefullness of "mini-lectures" less than 20min to keep attention span
try to keep instrctuons under 7 items, as humans just have trouble with more than this
well prepped lecture/demos will be practiced a bit beforehand to get a good feel for it/make sure it works
informal start to lectures allows you to get a feel for the group that day
proper introduction and preperation will lead to a better experience for both teacher and student
Propper planning and checklists will ensure an easier and productive lesson
Always be a professional, setting a good example at all times.
Have a continuing education plan for yourself as well as students
Be passionate and knowledable about your subject
