I thought computers were suppose to make our lives easier because we could do more faster and more effient! How did that work out? We just do more with our time. As a type A person I find I'm always tweaking every aspect of my life. I just can't leave well enough alone. I know they say if it's not broken leave it alone but I just can't. Gotta open the envelope to see whats inside.

To many meetings spoil the plans

One of the first courses we took here at UTI told us meetings were the biggest reason for wasted time, yet they meeting us to death. It would be ok if it really did some good. Maybe they should rethink what we are required to attend!!!

Most Meetings destroy time management

Having meetings are usually a waste of time. They are only advantages to a few yet all are suppose to attend when their time would be put to better use.

Be like a diver

Plan your dive - dive your plan. The same goes with your class. Be prepared for the day and enjoy the day. If your prepared the day will go so much better then having to run around trying to put the day together on a whim. The students will know! Things will go wrong, but you will only have that set back to deal with, not just adding another to the pile you already have.

Faculity Involvement

During orientation you need to show all the various aspects of the school. The more people who show up,on time, and show how much they like having them here and that they like being here the better. Various outlooks is not a bad thing. You may miss with one or two but maybe someone else will hit the home run with that student. Show you enjoy your job (no matter how much it's killing you).

Blow their socks off

Come prepared, have plenty of faculity, do meet and greet, show them an experience they have never seen before. Don't just do the same old sit behind a desk, table or stand behind a podium while they wander in looking like they are about to be killed trip. Get them involved, meet new people, talk about the class and take the fear factor out of orientation.

Be Ready- Be Prepared

As the leader of the class you need to show your students your ready to get right with the program. Show them you are organized and professional and it will help them knowing your prepared to go. By being ready I mean you have all you hand outs ready your booklets to pass out, attendance sheet ready and greeting them at the door as they enter your class.

Setting the ground work for the rest of the class

If you show your glad they are there and you really want to help the be sucessful and show an interest in them you are off to a great start. I don't mean you let them run the class but with a plan to help them get started on the right path you are going to be someone the students can relate to and feel they can come to you for help. Have a plan to involve them in the class.

Taking the fear out of the unknown

It's very important to have faculity at orientation so the new students can put a face with the dept. Take the fear out of meeting with a professor. With a diverse group the students will see that the faculity is really just like them and if they come off in a positive attitude the students will become at ease. If you show you care it will go a long way!

How can various department help each other

Just because a student is taking a certain subject or getting a degree in ie Art that doesn't mean they will get everything they need from the art department. How about general ed dept. The math or English dept. etc. They will all have something that the student can use in there everyday life to make doing things easier. You may be an Art student but you'll need to know how to use a computer to do research and find everyday needs. How about the business dept.? You'll need to know how to protect your money when you become a… >>>
