When I read the heading of the topic I thought of trying to create something in a petrie dish. Then I realized that is exactly what we do. Take a staff of people and try to create a mixture that will do some good with out destroying itself. One wrong ingedient and the whole project could be destroyed. As an instructor your students will look to you for encouragement as well the basic educational experience of learning. Not every student has the same goal and you need to encourage each and everyone to reach their goal. A student may only want to go back home a open a small shop and live a life of leisure. Another may want to become a mechanical engineer and work CFD and CAD software designing a better car for the future. Most likely the majority will fall somewhere in the middle. I really hope so other wise your stealing precious time and money from their young lives and you may be having a negative impact on them. The future of our business is producing good entry level tech here and if we don't show a positive side they may drop out and find another occupation to make a living at. If you ack like your here for the paycheck your students will catch on real quick! Show them you really care about there education and you will get a lot more from them and your day will go much faster. Don't keep looking at the clock or your watch to see how soon you can leave. Trust me they will let you know soon enough if you show that attitude. When asked a question reply and if possible give an example how it might have happened to you or someone you know. If the students think your only here for the pay check they may think your cutting corners . If you show you really are interested in them as a person and a student you will get a lot more from them. Show you care, interact with them and go above and beyond what is expected; find the ansewer to their questions, help them with a problem that may not be your course, etc. and they will become more then students. If you're there just for the pay check it will show and they will look elsewhere for guidence and knowledge.… >>>
