I use pretty much every topic that is available for testing. I like the variety and it gives the students more variation in their test taking skills.

My exams are both hands on and written. I feel the more hands on they get, the better they will remember. I also use powerpoint pictures and procedures that they have to identify. I feel that this is a good tool in helping all of the learning abilities!

I have had a few students that never are involved in class discussions. I finally decided to do a "whole class" question/answer role play. I am the client and my students are the technicians asking questions. I go around the room and everyone of the students has to come up with a question relating to the topic...I try and include real life senerio situations they can relate to. It seems to get the students who have been really quiet a better understanding of what the real world will be like and if they don't communicate with their classmates and instructors… >>>

With the classes I teach, I try and include all different types of learning styles. We do hands on, power points and also reading assignments. For the most part, I feel that it works well!!
I work at a emergency veterinary clinic and use a lot of examples and take pictures so the students get an idea of what they will experience after graduation. It is amazing how many students engage in the talks and ask questions about outcomes and what we did for the patient.

It is true that you never can get rid of all stressors, but for me, the outdoors really help me to relax. Camping and fishing seem to be the biggest helps for me. There is nothing better then sitting on a boat with the rocking of the waves or staring at a camp fire.

Working as an instructor can be extremely stressful! This quarter I have to produce a brand new class that I for one have never taught and 2 have never started from scratch to make a brand new class. I am really stressing because I feel, what if I do something wrong, what if I am not teaching them what the college exactly wants, etc. Please help me find ways I can "chill out" and try and find a little sanity in my life!
When giving exams, what do you feel are the best teaching and learning techniques for giving exams? I use a combination of short answer, true/false, multiple choice and matching. Most of my students cringe when they see short answer, but I truly feel in giving these questions, they have to remember and learn the material.

I use task lists all of the time. If I didn't, I would not know where my head is half of the time!! It helps when I can pull down a note knowing I completed a task or erase something on the calender. That is the best way I have found to stay somewhat organized!
I have a lot of life stories that I use to get my students involved and interested. They need and I think want to hear what life will be like in the real world after college and I have a lot of experience to supply to them.
