Activity

Stephen, I understand where you are coming from and I've done the same thing. Sometimes it's a confidence builder to knock out a few simple tasks before moving on to the bigger ones. Note that you can break bigger tasks down into smaller chunks and that can help produce good motivation to attack those too. Dr. Melissa Read
Tiwauna, So true. When you are more efficient and focused, your peers and administrators will notice. This is another positive benefit of course! Dr. Melissa Read
Jaclyn, Exercise works great for many people. Go ahead and give it a try. You can start small. No need to go full into a strenuous routine all at once. You can ease your way into it. Dr. Melissa Read
Samiya, That's a tough question and one that many instructors face daily. I often try to delegate some of the tasks to other competent peers. When this is possible, all the tasks get done and I don't have to drop the ball. Dr. Melissa Read

Regina, I understand where you are coming from and have personally been in this position in the past. However, I should note that we can't own full responsibility for our students and their success. A portion of that responsibility is theirs. Dr. Melissa Read
Richele, I am very much like you. To do lists give me great satisfaction when I can cross things off them. At times I like to keep prior lists so I can see all that I've accomplished. This keeps me motivated. Dr. Melissa Read
Michael, Excellent direction and I have a feeling it will serve you well. Both exercise and to do lists are great for helping instructors manage through stressful situations. Dr. Melissa Read

Corliss, It sounds like you don't have much of a margin for error. That's tough. Some instructors built a buffer into their schedules to deal with these kinds of challenges. For others, time limitations make this not possible. Dr. Melissa Read
Maikel, Excellent to hear. It sounds like you have quite the efficient system. I should note that sometimes, the fastest grading method is not the best when it comes to testing learning. If that is at all a concern for you, you might try mixing testing formats. Dr. Melissa Read
Olaolu, Multiple choice is indeed a fast way to grade and is often a great choice for instructors who want to save time. However, it is not always the best way to cover all course material or deeply test learning. Sometimes other formats, such as essay style, are a better approach for learning. Dr. Melissa Read
