Hi Heather You have been innovative in methods to get new instructors. I remember Pharmacy Technicians being difficult to find. It got to the point of referrals either from current instructors or from the Advisory Board. Thanks for your response.
That's a great idea. I always encouraged instructors to be very familiar with the catalog or handbook. It explains how many operational situations should be handled. Thanks for your response, Kim.
Excellent response Heather. Many of us have to start with instructors not trained in teaching techniques. It is essential that they be aware of and develop coping stategies for learninng differences with our students. As you said, "We all can learn, but not the same way".
Hi Kim After going through the steps of the topic, "Recruiting Instructors" what do you think your school does well? It is sometimes difficult to get newspaper advertisements to work, so your experience could be helpful to schools having difficulty with newspaper advertising. Thanks.
It's good you have a formalized process, Kim. Is there anything you would add to what you currently do?
Thanks Kim. Another good thing about structured interviews is that you use time effectively. While there are points you need to make, there is also information you need to receive. As with most things, in time, it will be second nature.
Hi Lucinda You use a lot of sources. That is one of the most effective ways to have a stream of good, qualified applicants. Why do you think your ads in other media are successfull? Why do you think newspaper ads didn't work?
Lucinda You are absolutely right. Nothing motivates a student like a passionate instructor. Are you willing to hire someone without a teaching background? If so, what do you look for?
Thanks Maureen. You really do (in both a positive and realistic manner) need to manage potential instructor's expectations. It is never as easy as it looks, but it can be very rewarding. As for the interview process, you have to determine what works for you. If the multi- step approach doesn't work--don't use it. Especially when dealing with busy professionals or referrals (as you mentioned previously) maybe the proof of interest is already known if they come prepared for a teaching demo.

This response is from Alessandra: Our Organization is unique. It has very little money, serve very poor students, attract instructors who are missionaries . . . at least, they are filled with a kind of missionary zeal. Having said that, I will now let you know that anyone interested in joining us is not a stranger to the mission of the Trainer Center. I am new to the Organization but this much I do know. I was not provided with an orientation other than a very general overview of the function of the programs. I would go beyond that for… >>>
