I have many students that think as long as they notify me of an absent (even if it's 1x week), they will be able to make-up each exam they missed. Sometimes it gets to be a big, ongoing problem. I only allow one make up exam per quarter and that has really cut back on students being absent on exam days.

I have thoroughly enjoyed bringing in guest speakers or going on a field trip with my students to bring more knowledge on the field into them as a class. I have found this very helpful in the learning process. I also keep in mind the mission of our college by understanding how our courses will fit into the college and their different classes. Power points done the correct way is also a very helpful learning process for my students. If it's printed out too small or too pale or boring, my students aren't as interested in the topic. By giving my students daily quiz's, I am evaluating how they are doing and where each student is in the learning process. I have found that this is very helpful in my teaching process as well. I have found that this comes up in the higher courses that I teach. A student may have a philosophical question for me that they want answered immediately. I have to let them know that I'm not 100% positive, but I promise I'll get back to them in a short amount of time. I feel that to be honest with them and get the right answer to them is better than trying to make something up as you go!!!

Positive Feedback is so very important when teaching. When my students don't provide feedback as much as I'd like, I know that they didn't get as much information out of the lecture that I had planned. I review over until I receive more positive feedback and comment.

I quiz my students daily on the retention of my lectures. Once finished lecturing, I have a student discussion and make sure everyone is participating in the discussion. If not, they don't receive their discussion points for the day.
