About me

Activity

Personally I love having all ages of students. It keeps class interesting as all have something different to contribute. The youngest are always on top of popular culture and the oldest have wisdom of life experience to share. In the best classes it creates an environment of tolerance and respect.

I was glad to see mystery listed as a motivation. I have often been perplexed as to why a student made the decision to be in school. Listing it as a motivator made me realize it is ok if I cannot pinpoint the reason they are in my classroom. Sometimes it is just a mystery!
I try to take advantage of the differences between these 2 different groups. the older students can share real-life career experiences while the younger learners add a contemporary twist. It can help both in learning.

I find it incredibly important to the students that I remember their names ASAP. Since most classes are required to break I always wait for them to return to the classroom (usually alone or in small groups) and engage each as they come back into the classroom by confirming their name and a brief talk about their interests. It is a second review for me during the first class and helps me to get the name thing down early.
