I often assign journaling projects for my students. This helps me keep track of where they are in the class and what they've learned. It also helps them realize just home much we've done and how much they've learned in the course. Lots of times, students will say that they don't feel that they've learned much. I tell them to refer to they're journal, and they're amazed that we've covered 3-5 chapters in a week, and they realize they actually know most of the material. I also like to throw in mini quizzes that contain 5-10 questions. This tests their… >>>

I try engage all learning styles with every lecture class I have. As I'm lecturing, I like to have a powerpoint or some other visual display going. I sometimes even include video clips. I like to throw in curve balls to encourage class participation. If students aren't participating, I like to hit them with a question that I know appeals to something they are very interested in and tie that in to the lesson. I also like to set up various scenarios that have no clear, definite answer just to get them in a critical thinking mindframe.
I always aim to deliver the course content in a plethora of ways. I try to appeal to as many learning styles as possible.

The first meeting sets the tone for the rest of the course. I always try to include a little bit of humor to get the students to relax and see that I am human too.
I always strive to create an air of comfort and relaxed discussion about course content in my classroom. I find that presenting the material in a more relaxed, discussionary manner yields greater student results.
I believe in continually developing as an instructor, because our fields are constantly changing. We must stay current with the times.
