About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Activity

Hi Mindy, Super! We need to make sure our students are clear about course requirements. Great reminder to do this at the end of each lecture period. Patricia Scales
Hi Dominick, You do a fine job with ensuring clarity of the course requirements. It is nice to have a weekly sheet, in addition to the syllabus to determine what is due. Patricia Scales
Hi Suzanne, Students enjoy learning through the use of games. Students retain more when they are having fun while learning. Patricia Scales
Hi Somer, Awesome! Students enjoy hearing about how things really are in the real world. It is always good for students to know how to think out of the box. Patricia Scales
Hi Sandra, Let the students list 15 things they have in common. Do not allow students them to use gender, body parts, clothes they have on, etc. make them think. This is a great bonding excercise. They will find out how they are alike in so many ways, yet different. Patricia Scales
Hi Brian, This is also a great technique to utilize to put students at ease. We must do what we can to generate excitement. Patricia Scales
Hi Dwight, Jeopardy is a great came to play to test one's knowledge base. Students love it, and they really retain the information when learning is taking place through the use of having fun, a game. We need to make learning fun for our students. Just think, learning started out as being fun when we started learning in kindergarten. Patricia Scales
Hi Carol, Great way to connect learning to the real world! Students need to know what they are learning is useful. Patricia Scales
Hi Gina, Yes! You must listen and watch closely. My students know that they are being watched; it really decreases cheating. Patricia Scales
Hi Lowell, Nicely stated! Students need to know that the information is going to be useful to them either personally or professionally. Once students understand the benefit they are more likely to buy in. Patricia Scales
