I found that if I pretest the students, they have the opportunity to see the areas they are weak in and improve on this. It also encouorages the students to strive for more. If they received a grade 'B' on the pretest, students see just by encorporating better study habits can be worth the effort.
I have found the students retain more and are more willing to contribute to the learning by powerpoint. The feel less rushed and become excited about being able to express their point of view on the topic.
This is the perfect time to see your student in there own world and know more about there indvidual personality. This makes placement for extern more easier since you have had the opportunity to see the student outside the classroom.
Although one has assumed the role of instructor, it is still always better to remember that to error is human. Try not to be above making mistakes, but be about learning from them. Correcting the oversight in front of the class not only shows morals, but sets the stage for honesty. They are learning from the example you are leading by.
If you can take a few minutes to speak to him or her to see if you can identify what type of help is needed, it might reduce the temptation and increase better study habits. Some students cheat simply due to ashamed of undeveloped learning habits. With encouragement, this might improve greatly.
If you are presentated with a student who has a low attention span, try to incorporate class projects and make that student project leader or manager of the assignment. Once that students has some responsibilites, he or she will be more willing and receptive to the new found role.
I have recently found that the more you engage your personal life experiences into your introduction, the less tention students release and become more involved and somewhat excited in the conversation. They are more receptive and willing to participate.
This chapter focus on time management and preparing for day. If a thorough prep was completed one should have no problems with the lesson and holding the students attention.
After completing this chapter it has brought an important question to the table for discussion. Are we really ready to be a role model. It is so important to look at one self and do an adjustment on our life history, focus on the key issues and try to be a guidling light for someone less fortunate.
